2011 Fall Weekend Training Event: Combat Pistol in Dynamic Environments, High Risk Room Entry with Simunition(R)

The Fall 2011 Weekend Training event was as great as promised. We had a fantastic opportunity to train with our friends in 3 different law enforcement agencies, private military contracting and CF. Both days were a great success despite the freezing temperatures on Saturday.

Two representatives from Abbotsford Fish & Game Club's ATS (Abbotsford Tactical Shooters) were present and gave our weekend rave reviews. See a letter from the Director, Richard Simpson here.

Civil Advantage Ammo Group (CAAG)

This is a non-profit group to coordinate bulk ammo purchases for interested shooters. We will be the coordinator or other members will as the group grows.

How it works: We have set up a simple forum to communicate and notify all members of new purchasing opportunites. When a new bulk purchasing opportunity is posted a message will go out to all members. Info about the opportunity will be posted in the forum and chime in if you are interested. We will form an order and place it at one time.

Typically there will be a deadline to form the purchase or a time window to use our groups name to get the agreed pricing. We will all purchase directly from the seller as Civil Advantage is not an equipment supplier nor will we be in the foreseeable future. This is a group by shooters and for shooters. If you can find a connection for cheap ammo, feel free to bring it to the group by messaging an admin.

CFSC & New beginner AR15 and Semi Auto Pistol Courses

We have added new CFSC dates to our schedule. We are now providing instruction in Aldergrove close to the freeway to make it easier for our customers outside of the Fraser Valley to join in.

We have also added an exciting new opportunity for our students that are interested in combat style shooting or a unique educational experience. Introduction to Combat Firearms for AR15 or Semi Auto Pistol is a way for beginners or anyone else that wants to expand their skills to get a solid foundation in this type of shooting. There are no expert operators here, no SWAT or Special Forces members, just you (or you and your friends) learning the basics and feeling free to ask questions or work on basic skills. We will walk you through the fundamentals including instruction in combat stress management. Written course materials will be provided for you to keep including a drill guide to help you practice effectively when you're at the range. Live Fire Instruction For Beginners

The response from Rifle & Pistol for Beginners (5-Gun Live Fire) has been great. This 1.5 hour personal instruction opportunity is perfect for those completing the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and feel a guided first trip to the range would be beneficial. We have made a name for ourselves in the firearms community by providing a comfortable, supportive environment.

What determines if a Canadian Firearms Safety Course is of a high quality or not?

Firstly, the instructor needs to have not only experience in a variety of firearms but also in the handling of these firearms in different sports. Secondly, the instructor needs to be a competent teacher and communicator as well as genuinely care whether the students leave with the training they expected. It is very important that he or she be patient and provide a comfortable and professional environment to cover this critical material. And lastly, the equipment, meaning the firearms must be the type and quality the student will encounter in the real world. The firearms used in the CFSC must not be poorly maintained.

All of these qualities are fulfilled at Civil Advantage because we care about the students we certify and their contribution to our society and our firearms community.

Hi Rod,
I wanted to comment on your classroom, and range training. Simply put, there should be more teachers like you out there. You made the classroom a very relaxed environment, all the while keeping the most important aspects of the course, safety and common sense at the forefront. I truly appreciate your calm direct approach. It was most beneficial to me as demonstrated at the range. One mistake could hurt someone, and that is the most concerning scenario for me. I hope that with more practice, the carry and concerns of the range will be as safe and enjoyable as possible. I look forward to getting my PAL and ATT so I can join the club at Abbotsford.
