Our courses are primarily taught in .22 calibre for rifle and any calibre for pistol. There are compelling and specific reasons for focusing our rifle training on the .22.
.22 is the most affordable ammunition available for a rifle.
Civilians rarely have the opportunity to have a police department or the federal government pay for training and/or ammunition. A day on the range participating in combat rifle training can easily expend 1000 rounds of ammunition. In the popular .223 calibre this would cost roughly $550 CAD. Alternatively, 1000 rounds of .22 would cost around $50 CAD. This allows trainees to refine their skills the only way possible, hours on the range and trigger time under supervision of an instructor.
In Canada, the only firearm with no limit on magazine capacity is one chambered in .22.
This rule applies to all rim fired ammunition. Many courses are available to be taught in .223 centered on the AR 15. In the civilian world, all participants would be limited to 5 round magazines and 10 round magazines if they are stamped for the LAR 15. This is impractical and problematic for this type of training. Civil Advantage will also offer courses based on the AR 15 weapon system but they will focus on finer skills training that may not require as many rounds fired.
Rifles chambered in .22 can be safely fired at steel targets at close range.
Steel targets offer instant shooter feedback and most shooters agree are far more enjoyable than shooting paper targets. The .22 cartridge offers a fast moving bullet with manageable audible output. This creates an opportunity to hear the sound of a target being struck and the instant gratification of a shot well placed.
Rifles chambered in .22 can be modified to improve ergonomics.
Many modifications are available for these rifles that can mimic the AR platform. This allows skills developed in .22 to be easily transferred to the AR 15 weapon system.

CA at the Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show
The BC Outdoors show was a great experience for us. We were very well received and I thoroughly
enjoyed talking with the literally hundreds of interested people over both days. I also want to
enthusiastically thank Ann-Marie for helping me out at the booth as well, I couldn't have done
it without her! Our business is very unique in Canada and it has been an exciting journey bringing
it to Canadians. Our advocacy of legal, civilian firearms ownership and "safety through training"
is starting to have an impact on our community. We are proud to participate in this effort and
represent the firearms community in this positive way. Thanks to all for your support.

March 1st, The Word on Urban Survival
Another First From CA!!!
Thoughts on the Course
The Urban Survival Seminar was a first for Civil Advantage, and certainly a first for BC in it's
content. 200 hrs of research and 80 hrs of organizational work went into the seminar and I
believe it showed. At first, I was a little reluctant to drop the full weight of reality on people who
might attend this seminar. Luckily, our group was a hearty one and no one panicked at the material or the context.
Medium term survival (7 days to 6 months) is not a glamorous subject, but the likelihood is real. In fact,
it becomes more real every day.
Proving that the glass is half full, if such changes were to occur, there would be people who suffer
and there would be those that would thrive. Those who can thrive in this new environment will be the people
who will have a place in a renewed society. I guess you would call them the strong. I have focused this seminar
to be useful for the majority. These strategies do not require six-figure salaries to implement or expansive acreage
to be successful. It is a strategy "for the rest of us" who desire to be the figure in our families that "have a plan".
I would like to thank the people who came out on a beautiful Sunday during the Olympic Games and took part.
I appreciate their comments and encouragement. I am very proud of this course and of the security
and confidence it will inspire in those that can share it.
Rod.
More feedback from our customers…
What they had to say...
We have received some glowing reviews on our courses
on www.canaidiangunnutz.com under the title "new training opportunity". There are pictures of the
last course posted there too. The most sincere thanks to those who are supporting what we are doing.
Previous, and still very a relevant thought….
After some discussions with our first registrants,
our decision to teach and encourage participation with .22 calibre firearms is on the mark.
It’s difficult to show up for all the other courses around with a .22 when everyone’s shooting a .223.
It’s even harder to afford great training when you’re spending all your money on ammunition.
Our message has been one of practicality and economics. The .22 shooter can attend twice the
number of courses when they don’t have to worry about the pressure to look combat relevant.
Training is improving, not posing. Thanks for all the great comments!!
